I evolved: from libertarian to Trump Republican
Many who have known me for years have inquired as to why I support President Trump.
To me, he takes actions in government which are entirely consistent with the values, spiritual beliefs and ideals I hold most high. Love, the doing what is right: from cutting government regulation, cutting taxes, protecting the Second Amendment , being efficient with use of taxpayer money, restoring lands to state control, protecting whistle blowers, educational choice, respect for those with Christian beliefs, and much more I see good being accomplished in this country for all Americans across the board. He is also a man with a history of opposing regime change/needless wars, while simultaneously believing in a strong military for defense. I write this after his first full year in office, and I can wholeheartedly say I have agreed with every action he has taken, from executive orders, judicial appointments, focus on what is best for the American people, and his once again restoring respect for America in the world.
In short, in so many areas, he evinces exactly what I’ve wanted to see occur in government, leading the country toward a much more prosperous, secure and productive future. His Make America Great mission should be in the heart of every American. Anyone who would place any global or cultural/social goal above the best interest of our nation is not an American in their heart. And into that spiritually dark category, I place every libertarian who cannot apparently see the forest for the trees, so stuck on their brand of political ideology to a T, they refuse to see what’s happening before their eyes: we are becoming freer, more liberty, greater control over our lives. Further, he says, often without restraint, precisely what I think, feel, and what millions of us across our country think and feel. He is unafraid to speak the truth as he sees it…and unafraid to act on it.
I broke with the joke of a party called “Libertarian” several years ago…and also broke with referring to myself as a little ‘l” “libertarian” when I realized how foolish the stance on immigration and self-defense was, and I have chosen to let my faith determine my stance on governmental oversight/prohibition of abortion versus my previous view of leaving it to a woman to decide for herself…if I believe it to be murder (which I always have) then I reject permitting anyone to murder another. I believe one must take their belief in non-aggression, their belief (for me) fundamentally in love, and use their mind to address each and every situation with the question: What is the most loving action I can take (and I always love God first, and I love myself first in relation to any other)…or one may simply ‘ask what is the right thing to do?’ If you put love in your heart, and develop critical thinking skills, you more than not will choose a path which brings goodness and peace into your life and the lives of other people.
I reject government interference in so many areas both personal and business, while simultaneously being able to recognize there is a legitimate need for governance. To have good governance requires a man with traditional American values (a love of freedom who is willing to protect it against any enemy foreign and domestic under the U.S. Constitution). This is precisely what we have in President Trump.
Unlike liberals and libertarians who appear to have a “no-thought” category in which they place anything outside of their unwavering social agenda (yes libertarians, like liberals, have their own social agenda, like a religion it governs or clouds their clear view of any matter, where they envision a utopian world of no borders, no military weaponry, no agreed upon governance of any sort which is consistent as they seem unable to agree on anything even amongst themselves). Thus when a man, such as President Trump, actually begins accomplishing many of the goals of limiting government they’ve long clamored for, those without critical thought see only someone elected who didn’t have a “L” (or “D”) by their name, so they put him in their “no-thought” category – turning off all thought of anything he achieves or does, because after-all, they cannot say anything favorable unless it is someone who claims to be one of them. I think there must be some without such extreme lack of critical thought, in fact, I know there are, I’ve spoken with them…those who were willing to watch this new president to see what he did rather than pre-judging him. To anyone who has had a habit of merely voting your party label (whatever it is) It would be wise to open your eyes and see what is happening to our nation: we are becoming freer, more prosperous, and the future now looks promising instead of the dire bleakness under multiple previous administrations for decades.
If only Libertarians/Democrats got rid of their adherence to their sacrosanct label, and instead focused on being an American, they’d see the progress already accomplished in such a short period of time. Progress which more than not matches many of their stated goals for economic prosperity as well as personal/state matters previously intruded upon by government. If you’re a libertarian, you must admit government is being restricted in ways it never has been before. I’ve noticed over the years , libertarians ranking the presidents of the U.S. as to who has been most libertarian, some of the lists are good, however I’d have to say President Trump has done more in recent history/administrations to free Americans from government oppression than any other. He truly has given more power back to the people, and continues to do so as he seeks to limit many government agencies from their before never challenged control. It’s something party hacks refuse to acknowledge. President Trump has done more for liberty than any elected “libertarian” ever has or ever will.
A wise man changes his mind. I’ve always been passionate about my politics, and I’ve always been sincere. When I was a libertarian, I was sincere, sincerely wrong, sincerely mistaken on several matters, and also right on several. My values and understanding at the time is what I’ve always focused upon evincing, and now I find my deepest values are being fought for by President Trump. I reject the often used political ideological labels and political party labels as they do not classify or correctly identify me, as I can really be summed up best as someone who wholeheartedly supports Donald J. Trump. This is because from everything he has stated over the years shows me he is a strong individual who, just as I am, simply tries to do what is right. He’s not a label, he is who he is…and I appreciate who he is. He is the first man in elected office I have ever trusted. Thus, regardless of the matter, based on the integrity I see in him, I am convinced he will study the facts and endeavor to do what he thinks is right, regardless of political repercussions.
As for me, I am optimistic about our country’s well being, the well being of Americans, due to President Trump’s leadership. I registered as a Republican solely to support his (and those who will support his) agenda. I’m also glad to see (despite the Republican swamp creatures who care nothing about the people) the GOP expressing a focus upon implementation and protection of the U.S. Constitution as can be read in their REPUBLICAN PLATFORM: A Rebirth of Constitutional Government. I ask all to go read it…to reconsider your up to now sacrosanct party affiliation, as the Republican Party under Trump, has returned to its roots, and is reflecting principles those who value the U.S. Constitution can now embrace. You may not agree with all of what the GOP advocates or all of what President Trump may advocate, however if honest, you have to admit far more liberty has been achieved in the last year for the American people than in decades. Again, although many of its politicians are just run of the mill party hacks who reject the values and progress President Trump has made (and spoke against him during his campaign), there are also many emerging who ascribe to his Make America Great Again agenda. For me, it’s President Trump’s work and goals which I support because it is a movement which is most loving to the American people.
The United States of America is in far better health now, on a much more prosperous and freer path, than I thought could happen in such a short time, thanks to President Trump. Join us!
